Things to think about

Congratulations! The excitement of the proposal is subsiding, now the fun begins.  Now  it comes to thinking of all the things that have to be decided upon for your big day.  The first thing you need to do is determine what type of wedding you and your future spouse want.  Hopefully, the questions below will give you some good discussion points.  It would be good to discuss the priority of each item, so should compromises have to be made, you have a sense of what is most important to each of you.

v     Do you want a traditional wedding & reception, or a private ceremony and a large reception afterwards, or destination wedding and party in another location afterwards?

v     Where shall the wedding location be; Church, Garden, Mountains, Hotel, Lake?

v     Who do you want to perform the ceremony?

v     Do you want the reception to be indoors, outdoors, indoors & outdoors?  If you want outdoors only, how will rain or shelter from the sun and bathrooms be handled?

v     Do you want a spring, summer, fall, or winter wedding?

v     Do you want a morning, afternoon, or evening weddings?

v     How many people will attend?

v     Do you want a rehearsal?

v     Do you want a rehearsal dinner?

v     Do you want a wedding procession {bridesmaids, groomsmen, best man, and maid of honor}, or just one person to stand with you?  Will you have someone give you away?  How many bridesmaids and groomsmen will you have?

v     Do you want to have children at the wedding and reception? How will they participate, hanging out with the guest/parents or with separate things for them to do?

v     Do you want a traditional reception (i.e. receiving line, toast, first dance, garter & bouquet toss, best man toast}, or just a party?

v     Do you want a sit down dinner, buffet dinner, or standing reception

v     Do you want everyone to dine in the same room or can they be seated in several rooms?

v     Budget; how much do you want to spend on your wedding?

It use to be pretty set about who paid for what when it came to weddings. Today, however, couples divide up expenses in a way that is agreeable to everyone.  Weddings can be expensive; you the couple can set the tone for the type of wedding you want. Recruiting help from family and friends is a good way  to get everyone involved and save time and money.  A wedding coordinator will save you time, money and stress.

YOUR WEDDING PLANNING NOTEBOOK

Organization - Moses made lists!

Having some place to keep copies of contracts, swatches, head counts, RSVP list and everything in between will help you keep your sanity. Get a notebook with dividers, & plastic sheet covers, you can personalize it with fabric and pictures.

Make a divider for each category of your wedding, examples:

Time line - Dress - Wedding Location - Flowers - Reception - Music - Etc

Use plastic sheet covers for holding, fabric swatches, contracts, business cards, and inspiration pictures.  A spiral - 3 holed 10 1/2" x 8" tablet will fit nicely in your notebook for all your current list of  "To Do's"  .  With calendar pages in the front of your notebook you can keep a handy record of all your pre-wedding appointments and time lines.
